show me diagrams of your brain on stress
One of my recent articles gave a statistic from the sports psychology world stating that it requires about 5 positive comments to overcome 1 negative comment when coaching young players. This means that negative comments carry a lot more weight in the mind of a child than do positive comments.
Most people lack real confidence.
But this extends far beyond young athletes to most of the population. Most people dwell on criticism or a bad experience far more than they think about praise or positive experiences. This all comes back to the beliefs that you have implanted in your brain throughout your life.
If you continually tell yourself that you are no good at something then your brain will pay a lot more attention to the evidence to support that viewpoint than it will to evidence that contradicts it. Your brain is always trying to uphold your beliefs.
Since most people have limiting beliefs, they are more focused on negative feedback than positive feedback and that’s how the whole 5 to 1 (positive to negative) ratio gets established – 1 negative piece of feedback is as powerful as 5 positive pieces.
Seeing the sunny side of life
I ran across a couple of papers this week in Psychological Science and The Journal of Neuroscience showing how brain activity that controls this, changes as we get older. Our brain circuits that filter your positive and negative experiences actually rewire as you age.
When we are younger, our brains allow negative information and bad experiences to go straight to our automatic responses. We don’t think about them too much or evaluate them before we allow them to affect us. On the other hand, positive feedback and good experiences get some extra processing by the ‘higher functioning’ part of our brains before we allow them to effect us. The positive stuff has to pass through a filter before we believe it but the negative stuff doesn’t.
As we age this begins to reverse. Our filters of the negative stuff get stronger and our filters of the positive stuff get weaker. We allow positive stuff to affect us more easily (in a good way) and screen out some of the negative stuff. We don’t spend so much time dwelling on criticism and accept more praise.
This is just an average description of the whole population. Of course, there are people that are good at filtering out the negative stuff early in their life and others that never get good at it. There are people that take complements and praise very well at a young age and others that never learn how to accept it.
Speeding up the process
So the question becomes, can we do anything to accelerate the process? Can we ‘train our brains’ to become better at accepting positive stuff and better at filtering out negative stuff without having to wait until we get to our elder years?
I believe that you can. There are certainly things that you can do directly to pay more attention to feedback that will boost your confidence and dismiss other experiences that tend to bring you down. There are also many indirect things that you can do to support the health and maintenance of your brain.
This comes back to performance concepts that I’ve discussed before. Your brain is in a constant state of remodeling itself. It is up to you whether the new updates you make on a daily, weekly and yearly basis will be the same as the old ones, or improved.
You can ensure that your new updates are physically stronger with the basic nutrition, sleep and physical and mental exercise needs – or not. You can also ensure that your new updates perform better by working on your ability to think for yourself and replacing some of your limiting beliefs with empowering ones.
Over time, this will strengthen your filters to deal with all your negative experiences and allow more of the positive experiences to get through. Science shows us (as discussed above) that our brain circuits have a natural tendency to improve on this front as we get older, but the speed at which you do it and the final levels that you reach are up to you.
Focus on the good feedback and your health, and the brain circuits that control your positive beliefs will literally get stronger and faster. This will increase your confidence and your ability to control your own life.

weaver k4 60-b scope
Weaver rifle scopes have been around for quite some time. As a matter of fact they were introduced as far back as 1930 and ever since Weaver has become a very well known brand name in the world of hunting and shooting. Like many other rifle scope companies over the years Weaver has felt the pinch of competition despite a long and established history of producing quality products. Weaver itself was sold on in the late 1990s and shortly afterwards was bought by a company called Meade who made it their mission to modernize the entire Weaver scope range.
For many years the most popular Weaver rifle scopes have been the 330 and 400 which are well known for delivering excellent quality and performance without costing the earth. The Grand Slam scopes were introduced as part of the Weaver/Meade merger and this step took Weaver scopes to a never-before-seen level. The Grand Slam line of scopes includes several options including variable power scopes such as the 1.5-5x32mm and the 3-10x40mm as well as the 3.5-10x50mm and the 4.5-14x40mm scope. The 6-20x4mm AO variable power and the fixed power 4.75x40mm are also available in the new Grand Slam lineup.
These new scopes are capable of taking a beating if the situation calls for it. Designed with tubes that are manufactured from aircraft quality aluminum, the scopes are 1″ in diameter with lenses crafted from camera quality glass. Multi-coatings are provided to further reduce glare while elevation and windage adjustments can be clicked and conducted with no use of special tools required – just making life easier for shooters everywhere.
It seems that a lot of thought and planning has gone into the new line of Weaver scopes as they’ve been designed to truly consider the shooter. The exterior is provided with a rubberized fast focus ring as well as a sure-grip exterior that can easily be handled even when you’re wearing gloves. To further prove the quality of this new lineup, Meade has provided the Grand Slam line with full fogproof, waterproof and shockproof capabilities. A limited lifetime warranty is also offered, with repair or replacement of any defective scope at no charge as long as the scope is still owned by the original owner.
Weaver has been providing high quality, high performance rifle scopes for many years and this doesn’t appear to be about to change anytime soon. The new Grand Slam range shows that Weaver has their sights firmly fixed on the future by offering reasonably priced scopes with a great feature set. You can expect to see Weaver products on the market for a long time to come.

home and student 2007
In 1818, Noah Webster sold 5 million copies of his Spelling Book. Our nation only had 20 million residents. One in 4 people bought his book. People were well read and cultured learning at home. Our forefathers believed our country would grow to be a more civilized productive republic if every citizen could learn the seven arts of reading, writing, thinking, singing, calculating, bookkeeping and speaking. How true they were! School began as institutions to promote lifelong learning for the masses, and created the greatest country in the world. Prior to formal public primary/ secondary schooling people learned at home.
However, public primary/ secondary schools began were not meant to supplement at home learning. The home is still critical to process of lifelong learning. Most children learn and replicate their parents’ strengths and weaknesses. In essence, the parent is the child’s first teacher. Parent have the responsibility to ignite a student’s desire to pursue their natural talents; Schools have the responsibility to teach both student and parent how to establish a foundation for lifelong learning. Parents hold the keys to a child’s success or failure and hence a school’s success or failure.
When parents are immersed in the culture of lifelong learning high performing students and high performing schools develop. Here are some of our results:
Hanstein Elementary 2002-2003 school year
Recreated parent group to be involved in academics at home and at school.
Fifty percent (50%) increase MEAP Reading proficiency score from of 28.1% to 78.1%

lg wi fi network blue ray disc player
The LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player is currently one of the leading Blu-ray models in the market. It is enjoying raving reviews from users worldwide and is proving to be a strong rival for the popular Sony S350 and Sony S550 models.
The most obvious feature that I love about the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player is its new design. It is barely 2.5 inches thick and has a flat and glossy black front interface. As black goes with any color, I much prefer the LG player’s design to Sony’s models (which are in a strange metallic blue color).
The LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player’s audio and visual playback for Blu-ray discs is impressively crisp and clear. The start up time is fast and there are no signs of reduction in visual quality in high-speed visual sequences. DVD movies also play well on this LG movie player. The machine can up-convert DVD movies to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p resolutions. Like many players, the LG model has a 24 frames-per-second option to produce a more cinema-like quality.
Setting up the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player is very easy, as there are only 3 cables involved; the power cable, Ethernet cable and the HDMI cable. One of the best features of LG’s player is its Netflix feature. Once connected to the internet, you can browse through Netflix’s movie database that has over 12’000 movies and TV shows. With a modest sum of about $9 a month, you can watch an unlimited amount of movies from Netflix. You would also receive a free application and software update every month over the internet. There is also a USB port where you can plug in a thumb drive to increase the memory capacity of the player.

od practitioner skills
By the time that you reached this level, you have mastered learning the human excellence and understanding the values with it. With this, you are now ready for taking one of the NLP training courses – the NLP Master practitioner training.
This NLP training course is all about recognizing your skills and applying the concepts of NLP to help yourself and the people around you determine and apply these learned skills. For instance, you want to learn a particular skill, say, cooking. You need to use a certain NLP model to be able to learn this particular skill. Remember that there are different kinds of models appropriate for a specific skill that you would like to learn. After learning about the model, you have to apply these concepts to yourself and you can also help people around you learn that particular skill using the same model.
As an NLP practitioner, you are expected to know several principles and techniques that you need to help yourself become a better person and also to help others by being an NLP master practitioner.
After taking this training course, you will have the chance to study the Advance techniques in NLP practitioner. However, being a practitioner is not as simple as it sounds. You have to accomplish several requirements to be able to become accredited. You have to pass an exam, attend a seminar or workshop for master practitioners, create and submit a modeling project that you have created yourself, and study about a specific case and submit your findings together with all the requirements. Of course, you need to do all of these to be able to become an accredited master practitioner.
You might say that it is just like learning at a regular school or university in which you also have to do your own research before graduating. This is almost the same as the concept that you are familiar with in the university. It is also important to understand the basics of NLP before you even think about becoming a master practitioner. You have to understand that master practitioners do not just help themselves become better. They also help other people become better by sharing what they have learned during their training as participants and later on as master practitioners.
There are two NLP courses that you have to finish to be able to enroll in a Master Practitioner course.
Diploma Course – This is usually a part of the Practitioner course. You need to take this course for you to know which course really suits you best. This means that you can learn about the basics of NLP by finishing this course.
Practitioner Course – This is the first step in learning the skill on human excellence. After mastering the Practitioner course, you will decide whether you will be taking the Master Practitioner course.
After finishing the diploma, practitioner, and master practitioner NLP training levels, you can now decide whether to pursue a skill in training to be able to become a full-pledged NLP trainer.

b 52 in downtown la.
Downtown areas are the social and financial center of many communities. Some municipalities are looking to revitalize and kick-start development in struggling downtown districts, while others are looking to grow and expand upon quality development that has occurred organically over time. Regardless of the issues, a key to a healthy downtown is continually generating fresh ideas and solutions that are tailored to an individual community’s changing needs.
To fully develop ideas and solutions, there needs to be an evaluation of what is currently working and not working downtown: an existing conditions overview. This includes honest observations that point out how a downtown environment could be even better.
An intensive assessment by a team of downtown professionals typically includes a walking tour of downtown, informal meetings with merchants, residents, staff and officials, review of previous planning documents, and independent analyses and evaluations by an experienced downtown team.
Some of the questions a downtown team will typically ask include the following:
Signage: How are businesses communicating to the public? What do the signs say about the downtown environment?
Street Lighting: Is the downtown well-lit, safe and appealing?
Window Displays: What are shoppers’ first impressions of downtown businesses?
Connectivity: How are neighborhoods connected to downtown?
Downtown Sidewalks: What is the quality of sidewalks? How are the downtown sidewalks functioning?
Streetscape Continuity: How does the streetscape enhance or deter pedestrian movement along downtown streets?
Maintenance of the Public Realm: How well-maintained are public spaces? What private spaces function as public spaces?
Recently, the NEXTSTEPS for Downtown team, which provides expert planning, parking, and traffic services to downtown areas, prepared a downtown evaluation for the Village of Holly, Michigan. The Village of Holly is located in northern Oakland County, Michigan and includes a historic downtown district.
Downtown Holly was developed at a pedestrian-oriented scale that is easily walkable. Recent improvements to the streetscape are attractive and barrier-free.
Battle Alley, a narrow historic street flanked by local shops and the historic Holly Hotel, has a scale and charm that is immediately felt by the pedestrian. Other downtown streets vary in terms of streetscape amenities, street trees, building walls, and the like.
Many storefronts have attractive display windows, interesting merchandise visible, and amenities for shoppers such as wide awnings and recessed doorways. These adjacent private elements augment the public streetscape and are part of what makes the pedestrian experience in downtown Holly unique.
After a site visit, interviews (with staff, merchants, customers, and developers), and review of previous planning documents, the NEXTSTEPS team prepared a user-friendly downtown toolkit. This toolkit included:
• Assessment of the business district by experienced downtown professionals,
• Illustrative report describing what is working and what is not working downtown,
• Series of short-term and long-term action strategies (Next Steps) to enhance & strengthen downtown,
• Best practices report (what’s working elsewhere in downtowns across the country),
• Implementation worksheets (to prioritize and assign tasks that strengthen and grow downtown), and
• An interactive disk containing electronic versions of all the above documents.
The entire NEXTSTEPS for Downtown process is designed to be completed within 30 days of the site visit. It’s an intensive effort that is designed to generate fresh ideas and solutions quickly. Many ideas can be implemented right away at little cost, and others are often more significant in scale and cost. The implementation worksheets provide the tools necessary for the downtown leaders to accept, reject or modify recommendations, prioritize them, and then make assignments to appropriate persons, boards or organizations.

The implementation worksheets provide the tools necessary for the downtown leaders to accept, reject or modify recommendations, prioritize them, and then make assignments to appropriate persons, boards or organizations.

movie the sixth sense
Many people say that they will believe something is true and that it exists, only when they see it with their own eyes. I used to be one of those people and sometimes I still am. When I was younger, my parents would explain this phenomenon by saying that you cannot see electricity and you cannot see air but they both still exist. My rebuttal was usually that maybe you cannot see them but you can either feel them, like air (which you could not live without), or you can see their effect, like a light turning on with electricity. The catch was usually with spirits, ghosts etc. Where as I don’t believe in them because I cannot see them, hear them, smell them, taste them or even feel them, other people say they can. So, do they exist because some people believe in them or don’t they exist because I can’t feel them?
One of the great movies of the past couple of years is „The Sixth Sense”. It was so good that when someone told me about the movie, I managed to get that eerie feeling associated with ghosts without even having seen it yet. The movie centres on a child psychologist, Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) and his new patient, 9-year-old Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment).
In the beginning scene, Malcolm and his wife Anna return home from an event in which Malcolm received an award for his work with children. They discover a very disturbed, nearly naked Vincent Grey in their bathroom wielding a gun. Vincent tells Malcolm, „I don’t want to be afraid any more” and Malcolm quickly realizes that Vincent was a patient of his as a child and that Vincent is upset at Malcolm for not having helped him. Vincent shoots Malcolm in the stomach and then shoots himself.
The following autumn, Malcolm starts working with Cole Sear. It appears that Cole is in a similar situation to Vincent. Dr. Crowe becomes dedicated to helping Cole and slowly gains his trust while his home life and his wife are starting to suffer and fall apart. Meanwhile, he is haunted by doubts over his ability to help Cole after his failed attempt to help Vincent.
Malcolm earns Cole’s trust and Cole ultimately confides in him. „I see dead people” he tells him. At first Malcolm is skeptical but he eventually comes to believe that Cole is telling the truth and that Vincent may have had the same ability, a „Sixth Sense”, the ability to see ghosts. Cole is very frightened, „I don’t want to be scared any more” Cole confesses. Malcolm suggests that he try to find a purpose for his gift by communicating with the ghosts and trying to aid them in their unfinished business so that they can move on.
Cole communicates with the ghost of a young girl who is violently ill in his room one night. Cole finds out where the girl, Kyra Collins (Mischa Barton), lived and goes to her house, where a funeral reception is being held for her. Kyra’s ghost gives Cole a videotape to give to her father. The tape reveals that when Kyra was confined to bed with illness, her mother was poisoning her food, which eventually led to her death. Now that Cole has helped her move on, Kyra can stop haunting and rest in peace.
For those of you who have not seen this movie, I do not want to ruin it and I highly recommend you watch it. I will just tell you that the end brings on such a twist, you never realise where it came from and it gives you that feeling of „Ah…Now everything is all in its right place in the world”.
The movie makes you think about the people you know that have died, whether they had any unfinished business or things to tell you. It also made me think about what I would do if I knew someone who said they could see ghosts. Would I believe them? Would you?
